Glamorgan appoint Keith Exton
Glamorgan Cricket has announced the appointment of Keith Exton as their new Head Groundsman. Keith joins the Club from Oakham School where he has worked as Head Groundsman for 16 years. He will take up his position on 1st February.
Mowbray Park is Britain’s best
Mowbray Park, Sunderland has been awarded the prestigious title of Briggs & Stratton’s Britain’s Best Park 2008. Managed by Sunderland City Council, the park beat off tough competition from others across the country to win the top prize. The park was judged on criteria including environment, design, usability, access, maintenance and community involvement.
Willerby Landscapes scoop top BALI award
The BALI National Landscape Awards took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on December 5th 2008. The top award of the day, the Grand Award, went to Willerby Landscapes of Edenbridge, Kent who have been BALI members for over 20 years. They were honoured for the excellently landscaped grounds of Chavasse Park, part of The Paradise Street project in Liverpool City Centre.
TGA urge Boris to use turf
The Turfgrass Growers’ Association (TGA) has written to the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, urging him to utilise the benefits of turf in alleviating the effects of climate change, following the publication of his draft London Climate Change Adaptation Strategy.
Advanta Seeds change name
Seed breeder Advanta Seeds has changed its trading name to Limagrain UK.
However the company say there are no changes to the distribution or quality of their two leading brand ranges of amenity grass seed mixtures - MM and Designer.
Scottish Groundsman of the year named
Jim Dawson, head groundsman at Falkirk Football Club, has for the second year in succession been named as the IOG’s Scottish Football Groundsman of the Year.
He collected his award for season 2007/2008 at the recent Scotsturf show in Edinburgh from Alex Millar, IOG national chairman and Andrew Robinson managing director of award sponsors Rigby Taylor.
